Fire and EMS Recruit Program

The Colerain Township Fire Recruit Program will begin accepting names and contact information for those interested in enrollment, from June 6 to July 21 (year prior to program period). Below is a brief description of the program and only general information is provided. An informational session will be held for a more in-depth overview of the program for candidates seeking to enroll. The Fire Recruit Program runs from February 1 through June, 2024. Fire recruits will be paid while attending EMT and Fire I. Classes will be held Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Candidates must be at least 18 years-old and have a high school diploma or GED (or equivalent) to apply. The recruit process is designed to be competitive in nature, in an effort to obtain the top candidates for enrollment. Students that successfully graduate the recruit program will be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic, and Professional Firefighter Level II. 

The Fire Recruit Process Includes (but is not limited to):

  • Complete submission of recruit application with all requested information;
  • Informational Session - Aug. 1, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the Colerain Township Trustee Chambers (4200 Springdale Rd.)
  • Completion of the 1.5 mile run in less than 15 minutes - (held on Aug. 26 at Heritage Park)
  • Completion of a Personal Performance Evaluation (physical agility/combat challenge) in less than 7 minutes - Practice held on Sept. 7, Test administered on Sept. 12, 2023.
  • Aptitude Test (score must meet department standards);
  • Background check (BCI);
  • Driver's History Inquiry (BMV) - Candidates with more than four points will not be considered
  • Certified Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA);
  • Medical physical exam; and
  • Interview
